The Teeny House is a creatively written account of my attempts to transform our
house into a home. As a working mother
of two and a wife of an entrepreneur, I had a certain goal in mind when we
moved into our recently purchased first home:
create a place where my family wants to be. A clean, organized, yet lived-in space that generates
a sigh of relief upon return. Home,
after all, is supposed to be where the heart is. (Puke.)
Wait a minute…she said working mother of two. Where are the kids!?
Those are my
children. Don’t you see the family
resemblance? Archie on the left and Luna on the right.
John, my handsome Latvian husband, owns a gym (can’t you
tell?) where he pours his heart and soul into training others. We moved from the Chicago
area to coastal North Carolina
in 2009 to start our lives together in a warmer climate. Other than missing our Midwestern families, this
was the perfect choice for us.
That’s me, Emily, in the picture, too. I am a state-employed attorney by day (and
night and weekend), and a newbie to DIY-ing by spare time. I have zero professional experience with
interior design, am the least artistic person this side of the Mississippi, but insist
on forming this house into a home by various do-it-yourself projects. Two reasons for that: 1. See above, I am employed by the state and
therefore have zero funds to hire interior designers or landscape artists, nor
to purchase breathtaking imported furniture.
2. I need a hobby.
